Flat markers can be found in the "garden style" cemeteries (often of bronze, or
bronze on a granite base) or in special sections of other cemeteries to achieve a
certain "unobstructed" appearance. They are also used in conjunction with a
family or "estate" type of memorial to give more emphasis to the upright
memorial.
Bevel markers, sometimes called "pillow" markers, provide a simple means of
memorialization while their extension above ground and gently sloping tops allow
for the inscription to remain cleaner due to water runoff and protected from
grass clippings, debris and the occasional errant lawnmower.
The types of decorative design suitable for flat granite markers will work equally
